Introduction to Watercolour Pencils

Do you have a set of watercolour pencils, but you’re not sure what to do with them? Whether you are brand new to the medium, or would like more of an opportunity to play, bring your set to class and see the beautiful effects that you can achieve with your water-soluble pencils. You will learn a variety of drawing and painting techniques while experimenting with colour, line, texture and washes to create small paintings. Photo reference will be provided by the instructor.

Birds in Watercolour Pencil

Create a variety of colourful bird paintings with versatile watercolour pencils. Using both drawing and painting techniques, you can create beautiful effects with your water-soluble pencils. Coloured Pencil Portraits
Tuesday, 9:30 am - 12 noon, May 26 - June 30, 2026, 6 weeks
In this six week session you will gain confidence in your ability to draw realistic portraits using the versatile medium of coloured pencil. Experiment with various pencil techniques and use the fundamentals of blending and layering to create accurate drawings of adults and children. Instruction will include demonstrations as well as individual guidance. Previous experience with coloured pencils and/or a previous drawing class is recommended. Photo-reference will be provided by the instructor.

Koala in Coloured Pencil - 1 Day Workshop
Saturday, 10 am - 4 pm, April 18, 2026
Our subject for this workshop will be a drawing of a Koala Bear on black paper. You will bring this endearing animal to life by layering colours and mark making to create the texture of soft fur, using a minimal colour palette. Learn through demonstrations and one-on-one guidance. Photo reference will be provided by the instructor. All levels welcome.

Animals in Coloured Pencil - 2 Day Workshop
Saturday and Sunday, 9:30 am – 4 pm, May 30 and May 31, 2026
In this weekend workshop we will explore the versatile medium of coloured pencil through demonstrations and one-on-one guidance. We will work on two drawings, one of a raccoon on black paper, and one of a young polar bear on white paper. Learn different mark making and blending techniques and how to layer colours to create depth and richness in your drawings. Discover how coloured pencils can be used to achieve delicate detail, the texture of soft fur, and shining eyes.
