Miniature Landscapes in Pen & Ink
Wednesday, 9 am – 12 noon,
April 3 - 24, 2024 (4 weeks)

Draw landscapes on a small scale with pen & ink in this four-week session. You will explore line, textures and values using different drawing techniques in a variety of landscapes which include rocks, trees and water. Students will have the option of adding a touch of colour with watercolour pencils or paint. Some experience with pen & ink is recommended. Photo reference will be provided by the instructor.

Wildflowers in Coloured Pencil 
Wednesday, 9 am – 12 noon,
May 22 – June 26, 2024 (6 weeks)

In celebration of Spring, join us in drawing a variety of wildflowers in coloured pencil! Explore the versatile medium of coloured pencil through demonstrations and individual guidance. Layer colours to create depth and richness in your drawings, including sharp detail on foreground flowers, and a softer suggestion of flowers in the distance. Photo reference will be provided by the instructor. Some experience with coloured pencil is recommended but not mandatory.

Coloured Pencil on Black

May 23 – June 20, 2024 (5 weeks)

Draw a variety of subjects, including animals, nature and nightscapes, all on black paper. An introductory class or previous coloured pencil experience is recommended. Gain experience with choosing colours and problem solving as you focus on basic shapes, values and textures. The class will include demonstrations and individual guidance. Drawing Trees in Pencil
Tuesday, 1 – 4 pm, May 21 – June 11, 2024
(4 weeks)

Learn how to draw different types of trees with graphite pencil by observing their unique shapes and textures. We will practice drawing trees that are in the distance, as well as close-up, using various mark-making techniques to capture the details and values. Instruction will include demonstrations as well as individual guidance. Photo reference will be provided by the instructor.

Crocuses in Coloured Pencil – Workshop
Monday, 9:30 am – 2:30 pm, June 17, 2024

Join us for a one-day workshop drawing prairie crocuses. Some of the first wildflowers to bloom in the spring, these beauties can be found on west facing hills in the prairie parkland. Learn how to draw their furry stems and how to simplify the background. Learn, or review, the fundamentals of this versatile medium as you layer colours and work with values. Instruction will include demonstrations and individual guidance. Photo reference will be provided by the instructor. You are welcome to bring a lunch or use our cafeteria.
